Our Story

It all began with a bottle of wine, or maybe a few …

For nearly 30 years, we have lived among the rolling hills and peaceful farmlands of Upper Montgomery County, Maryland. Our appreciation for wine deepened as we toured local and international wineries. We wondered why there were so many wonderful wineries out there, but only a few in Montgomery County. After some thought (and a glass or two), we made the decision to educate ourselves on the art of winemaking. We attended Wine Camp (yes there is such a thing), then joined Maryland Grape Growers and Maryland Wineries Associations. In 2013-2014, we planted a 1-acre, test vineyard with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The project became a family affair, and during our harvest two years later, we had four generations working the land.

Then the most amazing thing happened, we made wine! The result exceeded our expectations and the following year we acquired our farm, which is now 61 Vineyard. We officially opened our doors to the community in October of 2021.

Why 61? Well, it was a good year! The name derives from the year we were both born, 1961. In the wine world, a good year is everything, and we can attest that 1961 was a really good year!

Celebrating our fifth business anniversary, our journey continues as we welcome friends and family to our cozy winery where they can enjoy a view of Sugarloaf Mountain and spectacular sunsets while sipping sensational wines. We can’t wait to host you!

Cheers,
Mark & Pam Giganti

“61 Vineyard is such a cool little spot! The setting is beautiful with open fields and vineyard views, and the sunsets here are incredible. They usually have live or fun music on the weekends which makes it an even better vibe. It’s the perfect place to just relax with a glass of wine, hang out with friends, and take in the scenery. Definitely one of those chill, hidden gems that you’ll want to keep coming back to.”

"61 Vineyard has been thriving since day one—always improving, listening, and creating an amazing experience. My husband and I got married here, and as our anniversary approaches, we’re reminded just how special this place is. The staff is always welcoming, the wine is exceptional, and the atmosphere feels like home. Pam and Mark have truly built something to be proud of in the heart of Damascus."

"We followed the reviews and found our way to this quaint vineyard. When we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. The staff were great, knowledgeable about the menu and history of the vineyard. We decided to go with the flight because we were in the mood for something a little on the sweet side. They nailed it with the Spritzer. Just try it and thank me later. We'll definitely be visiting again. I hope you do the same."

"I’m so happy to have this vineyard in Montgomery County! I went there yesterday for the first time. The wine was fantastic and it is so dog and child friendly and there are lots of places to sit. Very enjoyable afternoon."

"Such a cute family-owned vineyard. You'll see the Owners walking around making sure guests feel welcomed. Wines are on the dry side fyi. Everything is grown or sourced locally. We did their wine tasting which consisted of 5 samples as well as a charcuterie board (delicious spread btw). Indoor seating, covered outdoor seating, as well as picnic tables on the grass."

"Totally loved this vineyard and the beautiful views of the mountains. We went in the evening and was able to catch the sunset that was beautiful. Our hostess was super nice and walked us through all the wines and their process, which we very much enjoyed. The wine was delicious and we were surprised to have such quality wines for such a young vineyard. We especially loved their sparkling wine from 2024. It was beautifully balanced; I would highly recommend it if you love some bubbly. They also have some good whites & reds."
